International Development and Relief Foundation (IDRF) and Zindagi Trust Partnership for
“I am Paid to Learn” Food Supplement Project

IDRF (International Development and Relief Foundation) is a registered Canadian Non-Profit Organization, dedicated to empowering the disadvantaged people of the world through emergency relief and participatory development programs based on the principles of human dignity, self-reliance and social justice.

IDRF believes that the best way to approach community development is to partner with local experts, international NGOs and grassroots organizations. Most of the projects are initiated by their local partners who understand the challenges and opportunities of the particular context they are living and working in. Each partner is carefully researched by their team, and partnership decisions are made by committee consensus following strict guidelines.

In Pakistan, IDRF has joined hands with Zindagi Trust and donated CAD 20,350 for specific four month food program for Zindagi Trust’s “I am Paid To Learn” school children and their families.

"I am Paid to Learn" Schools
The Project is promoting education for working children, who are often the main providers for their families. by setting up I-am-paid-to-learn schools where such student could come and along with the education they also get a modest stipend in exchange for the time they take out from their paid work day. The stipend supplements their daily wages.

There is a hike in the prices of basic necessities due to inflation and thereby the weekly stipend is falling short of expectations and as such resulting in a dropout problem. To make the Project more sustainable and holistic for the beneficiaries, we provided food supplement to students through this project. This facility in the schools attracts children towards education and also covers their needs of healthy food.

We offered a food gift hamper to each child comprising of groceries like flour, sugar, rice, etc enough for seven to ten days.

Planned Activities
The project has been planned in such a way that best suits the requirements of the beneficiaries. This also does not hurt their self-respect in any form and motivates them to remain affiliated with an educational institution like Zindagi Trust.
