An Inter-House Hockey Tournament was held at the SMB Fatima Jinnah Government Girls School to promote and highlight the athletic skills of students, give young students a taste of competitive sport and to foster school spirit.
A total of 64 students from Classes 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 participated in the competition, while their classmates watched and cheered for their House team from the sidelines. The Inter-House system, which groups the student body into the Red, Yellow, Green and Blue Houses, was recently revived at the school and previous sports competitions, such as in football, have been successful in not only exposing more students to a new sport but also in building school spirit.
Sughra, a student of Class 8 who participated in the tournament had this to say: “I played hockey for the first time in this tournament and I like it more than any other sport! I want to continue playing hockey, not just in school but also outside school.”
The tournament kicked off with a round match between Green House and Yellow House which Green House won 1-0 to reach the final. In the next round match, Blue House defeated Red House by a margin of 1 goal to set up a final match against Green. The final was an entertaining contest which was eventually won by Blue House. We hope to see many more inter-house events in the future live up to the success of this tournament.
