A girls’ inter-school tournament was held at Malir Halt on the 17th February 2012. Four teams from different schools participated in the event. Fatima Jinnah School fielded a team consisting of students from Classes 4 up to 10. The 20-girl squad included Shifa, Misbah, Beenish, Kainat, Sania, Sania Nasir, Sidra, Tania, Maria and Shehrbano.
Fatima Jinnah School’s team was competitive and ended up drawing Saudabad School in the final of the tournament. Our 6th-grade student, Urooj, scored a goal in the final stage of the match and led the Fatima Jinnah team to victory. All the girls in the team played impressive football, with notable performances in the finishing minutes by captain Shifa Subhan and vice-captain/goalkeeper Sidra Shabbir.
The team captain, Shifa, said the event gave the girls an opportunity to advance and progress through sport. The team enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the event and were pleased with their wining performance. Aqsa and Noor said the win encouraged them and the other girls in the team to strive to improve as footballers and Beenish noted that competitions such as these helped them learn about the importance of discipline in sport.
A big thank you to Ambreen Hamid, Sports Teacher and AFC certified Football Coach who prepared the team for the competition.
