PTA and TikTok Collaborate with Zindagi Trust to Foster Digital Safety in Pakistan's Schools

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and TikTok have joined forces to champion digital safety within government schools across Pakistan, sealed with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Thursday. This initiative employs a multifaceted approach encompassing comprehensive training programs and guidelines tailored for teachers, parents, and students. These educational efforts will be disseminated through a series of workshops, seminars, webinars, and awareness videos, with the overarching goal of illuminating the responsible use of social media and mitigating associated risks. In attendance at this landmark event were Chairman PTA, Maj Gen (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, Director General (WAD), and Director General (S&D), Faiq Ahmed (Zindagi Trust), along with representatives from MoITT. Notably, TikTok was represented by its Head of Public Policy and Government Relations, Pakistan, Fahad Khan Niazi, and the Head of Public Policy Programs South Asia, Zara Basharat Higgs. Chairman PTA underscored the authority's unwavering commitment to digital safety during his remarks at the event, emphasizing that this partnership with TikTok, a prominent social media platform, reaffirms PTA's dedication to fostering a secure and safe online environment. This collaborative effort signifies the shared vision of both organizations for a digital space where safety takes precedence. PTA anticipates that this pioneering initiative will pave the way for other social media platforms to follow suit and partner with PTA to further enhance the local digital environment. Zindagi Trust will serve as the implementation partner for this collaboration, and the rollout of digital safety workshops is scheduled to commence from 14th September in Karachi, with subsequent workshops planned for KPK, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Punjab. In preparing the content for the Digital Safety Workshops, Zindagi Trust will draw upon its expertise in education and digital literacy to create informative and engaging materials that address the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the digital landscape in Pakistan's school system. The content will encompass topics such as responsible social media usage, online privacy, cyberbullying prevention, and digital citizenship. By tailoring these materials to the needs of teachers, parents, and students, Zindagi Trust aims to equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.
